Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - Le Gout du Bonheur

Pablo Picasso litho – Le Goût du Bonheur – 20.5.64. VI – 1970 – New York Beautiful original lithograph by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) from the famous Le Goût du Bonheur series from 1970. From edition number 445. This special sheet shows a colorful, expressive portrait of a sailor (marinier) with a cigarette, dated by Picasso 20.5.64. VI. The depiction is based on an original drawing Picasso made on May 20, 1964. The litho is part of Le Goût du Bonheur, a special suite in which drawings from Picasso's sketchbooks from 1964 were reproduced. The edition is described in Patrick Cramer's oeuvre and book catalogue, Cramer 148. Edition: • Pablo Picasso • Le Goût du Bonheur • 1970 • 20.5.64. VI • Vélin d'Arches with Arches watermark • Sheet size approx. 32.5 × 25 cm • From the New York edition • Publisher: Harry N. Abrams, New York • Printed by Dietz Offizin Handpresse, Lengmoos • Catalogue raisonné: Cramer 148 • Issued in an edition of 666 copies per edition; in addition parallel editions appeared in France and Germany. A fine example of Picasso's free and playful drawing style from his late period. The combination of vivid colors, loose lines, and the characteristic Arches paper makes this a particularly decorative and interesting collectible. Note: this concerns a sheet from the portfolio published in 1970 and not a later modern reproduction. The sheet, as originally issued, was not individually hand-signed or numbered.
