Wright discusses proposals for an autobiography or biography and explains his intention instead to write a history of the development of the Wright brothers' first powered flying machine, including their laboratory work and experiments in gliding and soaring. He states his desire to produce a "true and authoritative record" that future writers could use, and also references his controversy with the Smithsonian.
