Very special yet still working antique English 'pair-cased' silver men's pocket watch from 1796. This lot consists of the original movement in the inner case and the corresponding plain outer case. Both parts bear the Chester silver marks with the letter 't' dated 1796 and case-maker/silversmith 'B.W.G.' Very valuable is that the unique serial number 207265 is stamped identically on both the silver housing and the movement itself, proving that it is a fully original, matching whole. The fire-gilded movement is equipped with a fusee-driven mechanism and a chain. The back plate is hand-engraved with the maker's name "Ol r Han y London" and features a richly open balance cock with floral motifs and a diamond as the cap jewel. The convex, white enamel dial has deep-black Roman numerals and is adorned with original gold-colored hands. This watch, now 230 years old, is in a good collectible condition with normal signs of age. The dial shows clear and characteristic signs of use, including some light hairline cracks (hairlines) and small chips/bezel wear and repair spots in the enamel (see photos). The cases close well and the mechanism is visually complete with an intact chain; the movement has been tested for operation and runs well. A matching key is included.
