NOTRE-DAME-DES-ERMITES — EINSIEDELN - Lot 245

NOTRE-DAME-DES-ERMITES — EINSIEDELN NOTRE-DAME-DES-ERMITES. Maria Einsiedeln. Devotional image with a frame. Einsiedeln, Lith. Benziger Brothers, [19th century]. A rare and delicate devotional image made of embossed and cut-out paper, adorned with floral motifs and accented with gold. On the front, a color depiction of Our Lady of the Hermits (Maria Einsiedeln) accompanied by a view of the monastery and the abbey church of Einsiedeln. The fold-out panel reveals a text of consecration on the reverse: “Consecration to Our Lady of the Hermits. Mary, I consecrate myself to you forever…” and a prayer titled “Aspiration.” A beautiful piece produced by Benziger, a leading Catholic publisher and producer of religious imagery based in Einsiedeln. Condition: good condition considering the extreme fragility of the cut-out paper; minor wear and a few imperfections in the paper lacework, slight soiling.
