Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No Reserve - Monumental 19th-Century Kerman Carpet, Southeast Persia Size: 22 ft x 13 ft 6 in (6.71 m x 4.11 m) Provenance: Inventory of the late Albert Karmely A monumental nineteenth-century Kerman carpet of extraordinary scale, representing the ambition and technical capability of one of Persia’s greatest urban weaving centers. At twenty-two feet in length, the carpet would have required a vast loom, a carefully prepared design and an extended collaborative effort by a team of skilled weavers. Kerman became renowned for finely articulated floral compositions, graceful drawing and an exceptionally broad and subtle range of colors. Large carpets such as this were conceived as major architectural furnishings, capable of unifying the proportions and decoration of an important room. Its imposing dimensions make the carpet particularly suitable for a grand residence, hotel, gallery or institutional interior. Offered without reserve, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a nineteenth-century Persian carpet of palace scale. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #430 is in good condition, with a low, even pile. This piece has been antique washed to soften and mellow the colors. Both ends are complete and hand-secured, and the sides are securely finished. The foundation shows no signs of dryness. Overall, this piece is clean and floor-ready.
