全部拍賣 / Carpets, Rugs & Textile / New Hours Dedicated to the Queen. Paris, Hérissant, 1749. Sm - Lot 75

New Hours Dedicated to the Queen. Paris, Hérissant, 1749. Small 8vo (165 x 98 mm), contemporary binding in cream-colored morocco leather dotted with gold motifs, fully decorated covers framed by a red morocco leather border and a festooned garland enhanced with gray paint, extensive decoration of foliage, arabesques, and palm leaves in a mosaic of red and green morocco leather, enhanced with gold motifs, featuring a central rosette composed of gold motifs on a green morocco background and small gray-painted medallions, corner motifs outlined in fine line and accented with red paint; a ribbed spine divided into six panels, one bearing the title on a red morocco leather insert, the others decorated with gold motifs and painted in gray; pink tabis endpapers; gilt edges; box. Engraved title page adorned with the portrait and coat of arms of Queen Marie Leczinska and three figures outside the text by Mathey. Superb mosaic-style and painted binding by Derome, a true masterpiece of finesse and elegance. Curiously enough, there is another binding for this very same work with an almost identical decoration that was part of the Henri Béraldi library (II, 1934, no. 114, sold for 10,000 francs: “Rich and ravishing white morocco binding with mosaic decoration”). This latter binding is cited by Michon (236), who overlooked ours. The ravishing decoration on the covers has retained all its freshness here. Tears with small losses of text on three leaves. Binding joints skillfully restored. The first endpaper is missing. From the Landau Library, with bookplate. Acquired by Émile Rossignol in 1947.
