What should have been a festive day turns into a confrontation between ideals and authority. The coronation of Beatrix takes place in a time of housing shortage, social inequality, and growing protest. For many, the coronation is not just a ceremony, but also a symbol. The slogan “No housing, no coronation” rings loud and clear. The city becomes the stage for clashes, barricades, and unrest. The coronation riots show how deep social tensions can run.
