The piece rests on gracefully fluted legs with a cross-brace, each finished with gilded bronze mountings at the top, and a pinnacle in the middle of the tabletop. Includes a key for the fully functioning lock in the smoothly operating drawer. The brass lock with the emblem of crossed keys is marked with V.F. Paris, referring to the renowned house Vachette Frères. (see last photo) This company, founded in 1864 in Troyes by brothers Louis and Émile Vachette, was known under the name Vachette Frères (V.F.).
