全部拍賣 / Ancient Art / Myanmar / Burma

Elegant and rare representation of a standing Jambupati Buddha, cast in bronze and linked to the artistic tradition of Myanmar, in a vocabulary strongly marked by Arakanese models. The Buddha is depicted in his royal and crowned form, richly adorned with jewelry, wearing a high elaborated coiffure framed by characteristic side extensions. The right hand is lowered in a gesture of giving, while the left hand is raised in a teaching attitude. The whole is distinguished by a slender silhouette, a very balanced composition and a particularly refined presence. The surface preserves an old dark brown patina, with lighter areas due to wear and localized green oxidations that pleasantly highlight certain reliefs. The underside of the base still reveals the clay core of the casting, a direct testimony of the traditional lost-wax technique. Comparative study places this work in 17th–18th century Myanmar, probably the 18th century, within the tradition of crowned Buddhas known as Jambupati, whose Arakanese models exerted an important influence on several regions of Burma. Despite some ancient losses at the upper extremities of the crown and the normal wear related to its age, the sculpture preserves a very beautiful overall reading, a serene face and a remarkable elegance of line. A piece with a striking presence, both decorative and historically interesting, particularly appealing for a collection devoted to Southeast Asian Buddhist art. video link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/1vxax4n8h3d7yzlkv17w8/APi7HOZrae_FppxJDiWtvwc?rlkey=wq2gp3vm48qga7yynfp5yofrl&dl=0
