Mosasaur - Reconstructed skeleton - Grote Mosasaurus-vin...

Impressive, largely original mosasaur fin (paddle), professionally mounted on a custom-made metal frame. A true museum piece that stands out immediately in any interior or collection. The mosasaurus was a large marine reptile that dominated the seas during the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian, about 72–66 million years ago). With its powerful paddle-shaped limbs, it belonged to the apex predators of its time. Fins of this size and completeness are rare: the many loose hand- and finger-bones (carpals and phalanges) almost always become scattered after the carcass decays. This fin was excavated in the famous phosphate deposits of the Oulad Abdoun Basin near Khouribga, Morocco — globally known as one of the richest localities for Cretaceous marine reptiles. The bones come from a single individual and are in very good condition, with the warm beige-brown color and well-preserved bone texture typical of this locality. As is customary with fossils from these layers, there is some limited restoration and stabilization; the fin largely consists of original fossil bone. The bones are anatomically correctly arranged and expertly mounted on a custom-made metal frame with plinth, allowing the piece to be displayed freestanding. Dimensions: Fin: approx. 65 cm high × 35 cm wide Including metal frame and plinth: approx. 70 cm high Details: Species: Mosasauridae (mosasaurus) Period: Late Cretaceous, Maastrichtian (about 72–66 million years old) Find location: phosphate beds of the Oulad Abdoun Basin, Khouribga, Morocco Composition: bones from one individual, largely original; limited restoration/stabilization as is common for material from this locality Mounting: professionally mounted on a custom-made metal frame with plinth The piece is shipped very carefully and fully insured in a robust, custom-made packaging. Pickup is of course also possible. A unique collector’s object and a museum-quality showpiece — ideal for the serious collector or as a spectacular interior piece.
