Ming style armchair - China, Qing dynasty, 19th century

Descriptio An elegant armchair with a semicircular backrest, known as a “horseshoe-back armchair” (quanyi), characteristic of the Ming dynasty and prized for its clean lines and comfort. The armrests have a pronounced curve and are joined to the backrest by a wide curved line, while the upper crossbar is adorned with a carved medallion in the center of the intermediate panel, featuring stylized vegetal decoration characteristic of the period’s cabinetmaking. The seat is made of rattan matting, framed by a molded apron cut into an arch, supported by legs joined by side crossbars and a crossbar for added strength and stability. The pair is in remarkable condition; it displays a beautiful patina and warm tone that reflect the quality of the wood and the care taken in its craftsmanship. China, Qing dynasty, 19th century. 95 x 75 x 65 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
