Milton John (1608-1674)

Milton John (1608-1674)

John Milton – Paradise Lost – Translation by Chateaubriand – 30 steel-engraved plates – Large folio – 1891. Milton John (1608-1674) Paradise Lost. Translation by François-René de Chateaubriand, preceded by Reflections on the life and writings of Milton by Alphonse de Lamartine. Paris, G. Guérin, Nicolle et Cie, booksellers-publishers, 1891. Important illustrated edition in large format, enriched with 30 textless steel-engraved plates. The compositions, particularly spectacular, illustrate the great episodes of Paradise Lost: Satan, Beelzebub, the angels, the fall and the infernal scenes. Several plates are printed in different tones, notably blue and sanguine, giving the work a remarkable decorative character. Notably the portrait of John Milton, as well as the major compositions The Council and Satan and Beelzebub can be observed. 1 large-format folio volume, 219 pages. 35 cm × 24 cm. Old half-red leather binding, spine with raised bands decorated with gilt ruling and floral tools, gilt title Milton – Paradise Lost. Binding sound, showing some rubbing and signs of use, particularly at the headcaps and joints. Interior overall well preserved. The large plates retain a fresh overall appearance. The photos are an integral part of the description. Shipping by Chronopost or another service depending on the country, with insurance.
