Ultra-Rare Original Sabena Aviation Poster (c. 1948) – "With Sabena you are in good hands" – Exclusive Employee Edition on Canvas/Linen Backed – Outstanding Family Provenance! Description: An exceptional and highly sought-after original postwar advertising poster from the golden age of Sabena (Belgian World Airlines), dating from circa 1948. This is the rare German-language variant featuring the iconic slogan "With Sabena you are in good hands". Rather than being commercially distributed, this specific piece was an exclusive internal presentation edition gifted directly to a Sabena employee. Professionally conserved and mounted on cloth (linen backed) since its inception, this piece has remained strictly within the family by direct descent. A true museum-grade centerpiece for serious aviation and vintage poster collectors! History & Design In the immediate aftermath of World War II (circa 1948), Sabena launched a major international image campaign to emphasize the safe, elegant, and family-oriented nature of commercial flight. Designed by the renowned Brussels graphic artist A.J.B., the artwork features a smiling stewardess in her classic blue uniform holding a young child, set against the backdrop of a Douglas DC-4 and departing passengers. This powerful image has become one of the most nostalgic and definitive visuals of mid-century aviation history. Exclusive Employee Edition & Flawless Provenance What elevates this specific lot to a premier collector's item is its ironclad provenance. The poster belonged to a direct family member who was a dedicated employee at Sabena during the airline's heyday. Premium corporate gifts for long-serving staff, pilots, or executives were custom-finished by the master printers (Ets. O. de Rycker S.A., Brussels) using an archival linen backing / canvas mounting technique. This expensive conservation process protected the fragile postwar paper from acidification, tears, and creases over the decades. Consequently, the paper quality remains in fabulous condition, making it a rare survivor of aviation history. Authenticity Guaranteed This item is guaranteed to be an original color lithograph from the late 1940s. The texture of the vintage ink, the quality of the paper, and the masterfully executed cloth backing showcase its authentic historical value.
