Biology & lifestyle The crown snail belongs to the family Melongenidae. Its most striking feature is the sculptured shell with a row of sharp, upward-pointing spines on the shoulder whorl, giving the shell the appearance of a crown. Diet: Melongena corona is an extremely predatory and aggressive carnivore. It predominantly feeds on bivalves (such as oysters and clams) as well as other snails.
