A monograph devoted to the graphic work of Hubert Robert (1733–1808) and to the drawings held in the Louvre’s Department of Drawings, by Jean-François Méjanès, a curator specializing in French drawing. The book places particular emphasis on the artist’s Italian period, his taste for ancient ruins and picturesque architecture, as well as his use of red chalk, pen, and wash. Numerous color reproductions, often full-page, including *The Temple of Vesta at Tivoli* and various studies of Roman architecture and ruins. A beautiful publication from the Louvre’s Department of Drawings. Very good copy, with slight signs of wear on the cover.
