Wear a piece of history, not just jewelry Floral Rosette Pendant — Shoshana Symbolism in Jewish Tradition — Collector’s Piece Object Details Culture: Medieval Decorative Metalwork; Symbolic Comparison with Jewish Floral Tradition Period: Proposed Medieval Attribution (ca. 12th–15th Century AD) Material: Metal Alloy, Probably Silver Technique: Relief-Modelled Floral Decoration with Incised Details Iconography: Layered Floral Rosette with a Central Annular Motif and Scalloped Border; Shoshana Symbolic Association Dimensions Height: 12.28 mm ± Width: 12.27 mm ± Weight: 2.21 g Description This delicate ornament is distinguished by a layered floral rosette arranged around a central annular motif. Its scalloped outline and articulated petals create a compact, balanced composition, while the rear attachment loop permits presentation as a pendant. The pale metallic surface suggests silver, subject to material examination. Floral imagery provides a comparative context within Jewish visual and literary traditions. The Hebrew shoshana (שושנה), rendered as rose or lily, acquires particular significance in the Zohar, where the flower represents Knesset Yisrael, the community of Israel. This offers a symbolic association rather than an attribution of the ornament to Jewish ownership or amuletic use. Against this background, the unfolding petals evoke a contemplative image of a community gathered around a shared centre. Its miniature scale and layered ornament give the piece an engaging character within medieval floral jewellery. Report, Shipping & Photography A Cultural and Iconographic Assessment Report is available upon request before dispatch. A printed copy will be prepared and included with the shipment. A signed ownership document issued in the buyer’s name can also be provided if requested before dispatch. Every shipment is fully insured. The photographs were taken under warm, museum-inspired lighting to present the object’s surface details and historical character naturally. The object was documented using high-resolution imaging equipment. Its physical structure and form have not been altered; only limited colour-balance adjustments have been applied for visual accuracy. Please consider the photographs together with the stated measurements when assessing its size. Any cords, separate attachment rings or other display accessories visible in the photographs are not included with the object. Information The object is presented in good faith, with a commitment to transparency and scholarly consistency. No object is knowingly offered as a copy or imitation. Dating, cultural attribution, material identification, original function and symbolic interpretation are academic assessments based on typological comparison and the available comparative evidence. Relevant museum examples and expert opinions are considered where available. These assessments are not definitive laboratory findings; more conclusive identification may require further examination and appropriate analysis beyond the scope of the sale.
