Maurizio Valch (1972) - EL ORO QUE NO VALE CIEN EUROS

THE GOLD THAT IS WORTH A HUNDRED EUROS was born under a different name, until an unexpected circumstance came to be part of its identity. When I presented it at an auction, I received an appraisal that considered unlikely to reach a winning bid of one hundred euros. I decided then to incorporate that appraisal into the painting’s title. The work presents a territory of intense matter, traversed by small golden presences that emerge among dark expanses. Its composition explores the relationships between space, matter, permanence, and perception. This painting belongs to STRATA, a series that brings together years of research and development of its own pictorial language. It is not an isolated work, but a continuity of artistic creation built through different series, where the exploration of space, matter and perception constitutes a fundamental axis of my work. In STRATA, overlays, incisions, horizons, and small geometric structures establish relations between surface and depth, presence and absence. Each composition responds to both technical and expressive research, in which the pictorial elements build visual territories that transcend the conventional representation of landscape. My work does not seek to illustrate an emotion or prove a truth, but to construct spaces where perception, memory, and psychological experience can find their own interpretations. STRATA represents a maturation stage of this search, developed and refined over years of artistic practice. The irony of the title introduces a second reading: how much is gold worth when someone decides it is worth nothing? I do not intend to answer that question. I am more interested in the contradiction between the value we attribute to things and what we are really capable of perceiving. Condition and shipping The work is in excellent condition, with no damage or restorations. It is shipped unstretched and unframed, carefully rolled and protected inside a sturdy tube, specially prepared for international transport.
