Mark V. Marshall for Martin Brothers Stoneware Fish Bowl, circa 1870s

This figural stoneware vessel is a Martin ware fish bowl decorated by Mark V. Marshall, dating to circa 1870s. The exterior surface is detailed with impressed and incised textures representing scales and fins. The piece is finished in a thick, mottled glaze in shades of deep iron-brown and tan, which breaks into lighter cream and tan tones over the raised textures.
