DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK We present at auction an extraordinary 1970s sculpture by Mario Ceroli, one of the undisputed masters of sculpture and Italian contemporary art, historically published by the prestigious Art'E' of Bologna. The work, titled "La Cacciata (dall'Eden)", is a plastic transposition with a strong visual and emotional impact. Ceroli revisits the subject of the famous fresco "The Expulsion of the Progenitors from Eden", painted by Masaccio between 1424 and 1425, and located in the Brancacci Chapel of the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence. This splendid Ceroli sculpture stands out for an exceptional, refined and complex artisanal realization technique: it is a lost-wax bronze casting in refractory ceramic, carried out in close collaboration with the master founders of the renowned Venturi Arte. The sculpture was subsequently hand-worked with a chisel and enriched with a heat patination using acids and nitrates, which gives the metallic surface evocative and unique tonal gradations. The imposing block of bronze interacts in perfect harmony with the wooden supports (a back panel and a compact base in hand-tinted tulipwood, densely saturated with wax, whose distinctive finish and hardness to the touch harmonize perfectly with the metal). Wood has always been Ceroli's preferred material and central to his artistic philosophy, making this sculpture a highly representative piece of his language and material research. This is a rare and prestigious piece, perfect to embellish a refined space or a significant room, as well as ideal for investors and collectors of 20th-century sculpture. Its value is further enhanced by the worldwide limited edition and the recent exhibition background.
