Mario Cattaneo (1916 – 2004) - Unknown title, 1963

Photographer: Mario Cattaneo (1916 – 2004) Title: Unknown title, 1963 Print: Original Gelatin silver print on poly-coated paper Artist stamp on verso (see picture for details) Size: 30,5x40,5 cm Condition: Fine (see pictures for details) SHIPPING FROM EUROPEAN UNION (UE) Delivery with international tracking service About the author: Mario Cattaneo (Milan 1916 – India 2004) belongs to that generation of Italian photographers who, in the second half of the 20th century, found a space for expression and debate regarding photography within amateur photography circles. His keen eye and wealth of cultural and visual references make Mario Cattaneo a significant—albeit lesser-known—figure in the landscape of Italian photography. His images echo elements found in the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Doisneau, while his depiction of the social scene often takes on the tonal qualities characteristic of photographers such as Gianni Berengo Gardin, Mario De Biasi, and Pietro Donzelli. Mario Cattaneo’s photography is delicate, simple, and sensitive; his subjects—scenes of city life, social gathering spots, young people, the human face, and identity—speak of a man engaged in a reflection on existence. Reflected in his camera lens is the society of the era: the common ways of living and unwinding, of embracing ideologies and philosophies, and, above all, of acting as participants in the present.
