Margaliyot Tovah. Amsterdam, 1722. With the Rare Plate of Illustrations.

Sefer Margaliyot Tovah, containing three commentaries on Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra’s commentary on the Torah. Amsterdam, 1722. Printed by Isaac de Cordova. The main text is Ibn Ezra’s commentary on the Torah, surrounded by the following commentaries: 1. Mekor Chaim, by Rabbi Shmuel Tzartza, the Spanish scholar. 2. Ohel Yosef – Tzafnat Paneach, by Rabbi Yosef Tov Elem. 3. Commentary of Motot, by Rabbi Shmuel the Spaniard, also known as Megillat Setarim. With important approbations. At the end of the sefer is a rare plate of illustrations containing diagrams of the zodiac, the arrangement of the stones of the High Priest’s breastplate, the encampment of the tribes around the Tabernacle, and more. This plate is larger than the other leaves of the sefer and is folded. Antrique rabbinic signature at the top of the title page: An old ownership inscription on the title page: An impressive old signature at the end of the sefer: Beneath it is another impressive old signature: Signatures of Heshel Rosenbaum. An old inscription dating from around the time of publication reads: “Its price: 48 Danish shillings.” This indicates that, already close to the time of publication, this copy was being sold for the enormous sum of 48 shillings! [4], 156, [1] leaves. 32.4 cm. A fascinating work combining biblical exegesis, grammar, Jewish thought, and linguistics, of considerable religious and bibliographical importance to scholars of biblical interpretation.
