Magnificent mask - Kifwebe - Songye - DR Congo (No reserve price)

This mask stands as one of the remarkable examples from the small corpus of a Songye master-sculptor. This anonymous artist created at least six known kifwebe masks that share this same monumental sculptural quality and the great finesse of the execution of the striations. The main characteristics of this sculptor are the high graphical quality of his work with sharp striations and the white surface rhythmically contrasted by black areas at the level of the half-closed eyes, the midline ridge, and the lips.
