Original Pop Street Art piece to display or hang INFORMATION: February 24, 2023 marked the sad first anniversary of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. To commemorate this date, the Ukrainian postal service Ukrposhta presented a special stamp and postcard illustrating the mural by the British artist Banksy, on a bombed building and painted on the wall of a destroyed house in Borodyanka, Kyiv. The illustration shows a boy dressed as a judoka pinning down an older man resembling Vladimir Putin, particularly known for his high level of proficiency in this martial art. A visual metaphor highlighting the strength and determination of Ukraine and its people to stand up to their oppressors, even when they are bigger and more heavily armed. On the left side of the postcard is the inscription "FCK PTN!" (alias "Fuck Putin"), and on the lower right side, the @Banksy logo ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Lyssandre Saint York, Designer and artist born in the 1970s. My artistic work sits at the crossroads of two worlds that fascinate me: the raw energy of street art and the visual effectiveness of pop art. I grew up during the rise of the seventies style and Space Age design, an era of rupture where furniture rejected pre-war sobriety to dare organic shapes, plastic, and vibrant colors. Raised by this bold aesthetic, I naturally pursued design and fashion, conceiving and selling concepts worldwide for over 30 years up to today. This mastery of structure and visual impact later unfolds in my artistic creations. My journey as an artist began with play, composing my first works in Lego bricks under frame. This artistic approach allowed me to revisit great icons of pop culture. From Star Wars heroes to essential figures like Mario Bros, Mickey, or the iconic Scrooge, mixing luxury brand symbols with these Lego characters, icons of an entire generation! I have always loved taking ownership of these symbols to give them a new dimension. This work naturally extended to creating sculptures with the rebel Banksy environment and graffiti or iconic Art Toy characters. By remixing these sculptures and iconic figures, I play on contrasts to question our desires and our consumer society. This conceptual rigor dialogues with the absolute freedom of urban culture. Marker, spray can, stencil, paint, drips and textured overlays, but also with techniques other than which I blend with the chromatic power of pop art. My works have thus become a visual collision where the anti-conformist design of the 70s meets luxury, alongside the spontaneous subversiveness of the street. By juxtaposing and reinventing these collective iconic images with a graphic and instinctive aesthetic, I offer a nostalgic, double-entendre, impactful, and decidedly contemporary reading of our era with socio-cultural themes and minimalist conceptual illustration. From Paris to New York, via Taiwan or even Australia, my works travel the world thanks to you, and I thank you for that.
