Lydia, Kaystrianoi Æ Ca. 2nd-1st century BC (No reserve price)

Lydia, Kaystrianoi. Ca. 2nd-1st century BC. Æ (Bronze, 13.6 mm, 2.6 g). Obv: Wreathed head of Dionysos right. Rev: KAYCTΡIANΩN. Lyre formed from a bucranium. Reference: SNG Copenhagen 104. The Kaystrianoi were communities of the Kaystros valley in Lydia, whose shared regional identity appears on their bronze coinage. Issued during the second and first centuries BC, these coins served local circulation and bore the collective name ΚΑΥΣΤΡΙΑΝΩΝ, “of the Kaystrianoi.” Their precise mint remains uncertain, with Hypaipa among the proposed centres, offering a glimpse of communal life beyond the great cities of Hellenistic Asia Minor.
