After centuries of Venetian rule and a subsequent eventful history, the island was struck in 1953 by a devastating series of earthquakes that destroyed nearly all buildings and a large part of its rich cultural heritage. The monograph published by the Archduke in 1904 thus represents a cultural heritage of inestimable value" (quoted from the online presentation of the Ludwig-Salvator-Gesellschaft). - Worn and bumped, front cover stained.
