Limited production (3/25) Saint John the Evangelist – The...

“Saint John the Evangelist – The Word and the Eagle” is an intensely spiritual work dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist, one of the fundamental figures of Christian tradition, here depicted through some of his most recognizable iconographic attributes: the book, the pen, the eagle and the reference to the prologue of his Gospel. The Saint dominates the center of the composition with an inspired and contemplative expression. The face is turned upward, as if seeking a higher light, while in his hand he holds the pen and in front of him he supports an open book, symbol of his mission as evangelist and of the witness entrusted to the written word. The attitude suggests the moment of inspiration, turning the scene into a meditation on revelation and divine knowledge. Next to Saint John stands a majestic eagle, the traditional iconographic symbol of the Evangelist. The raptor, depicted with great solemnity, recalls the capacity of his Gospel to rise toward the deepest mysteries of Christ’s nature. Just as the eagle soars toward the sky, so does the Johannine thought guide the gaze beyond the earthly dimension, toward the mystery of the Word and of the divinity. Particularly meaningful is the fragment of inscription visible on the stone at the feet of the Saint: “In principio erat Verbum,” “In principio era il Verbo,” the famous opening of the Gospel according to John. This detail strongly identifies the subject and becomes one of the symbolic fulcrums of the entire composition, recalling the theme of the eternal Word and the divine light that enters the world. The landscape surrounding the Saint is wide and solemn. The rocks, the sea and the distant architectures create a scenario suspended between reality and contemplation, while the elevated position of the figure suggests a place of withdrawal and meditation. The natural environment seems almost to accompany the act of writing, transforming the space into an ideal place of revelation. Saint John’s figure is wrapped in ample draperies that confer elegance and monumentality to the composition. The composed posture, the absorbed expression and the presence of the eagle build a image of great balance, in which the human dimension of the Evangelist unites with the depth of his spiritual message. Executed in a refined grayscale scale with warm sepia reflections, the work impresses with the finesse of the line and the rendering reminiscent of an ancient devotional engraving. The chiaroscuro models the face, the garments, the eagle’s feathers and the landscape with precision, while the luminosity surrounding the Saint’s figure gives the entire scene a contemplative, solemn and timeless character. “Saint John the Evangelist – The Word and the Eagle” is not only a decoration, but a true devotional and symbolic image, capable of evoking wisdom, revelation, faith and the search for truth. It is a particularly meaningful work for those who nurture devotion to Saint John the Evangelist and for those who wish to introduce into their spaces a Christian image rich in Biblical references and deep contemplative strength. At the bottom right there is a red wax seal, a distinctive detail that adds personality to the work and creates a refined chromatic contrast with the sober tones of the composition. This element further enriches the work, giving it a recognizable, intimate and refined character. - Composition: 55% PU (Polyurethane), 20% Polyester, 5% Cotton, 20% Real Leather Fibres - Materials compliant with REACH regulations, environmentally friendly and free of harmful substances - Work not framed - Packaging and shipping: the work will be shipped rolled on a rigid cardboard support to ensure maximum protection.
