Dogon decorative lidded vessel from Mali, featuring a rounded form with side handles, richly textured geometric ornamentation and a stylised scorpion motif on the lid. The object was handcrafted using the traditional lost-wax casting process. The surface shows a naturally varied reddish-brown to golden patina, with visible casting and finishing marks characteristic of individually made metalwork. MATERIAL: Cast copper alloy, commonly referred to in the art trade as “African bronze”. TECHNIQUE: Lost-wax casting. PROVENANCE: Handcrafted in Mali and acquired locally in Mali. CONDITION: Good overall condition. The surface shows natural variations in patina, colour and texture associated with handmade casting.
