France Magnificent and rare large vase in blown glass, model “Thebes” with a hexagonal neck, a true invitation to travel, whose Orientalist decoration seems to transport us into the burning light of an oasis at the turn of the early 20th century. On a superb opacified yellow background, gradually kindled with orange tones and fire-red as the eye rises toward the neck, almost evoking the heat of an oriental sky at sunset, a scene full of charm and poetry unfolds. In the shade of a majestic palm, two water carriers appear surprised in a moment of their daily life. One, dressed in yellow and white, kneels at the water’s edge, busy filling her jar, while a second silhouette draped in red stands in the shade of a large palm, their jar carried over the shoulder. All around, the vegetation becomes dense and almost mysterious. Palm fronds, reeds, and tall grasses are sketched in deep blue-green tones and stand out against the glass’s sunlit glow. The contrast is superb: the cool, dark oasis contrasts with the warmth of the background, while the small brightly enameled silhouettes bring life to the composition. The decor thus has something of a small Orientalist painting on glass: a peaceful scene, bathed in warmth, where one can almost imagine the oasis’s silence, the rustle of the palm leaves, and the cool water under a reddening crepuscular sky. Proof signed “Leg” in the decor for LEGRAS. Lovely height of about 28 cm with a very beautiful volume. Rare example in the “Thebes” form, quite rare with this magnificent decor, sought after, whose Orientalist series is perfectly referenced and illustrated in the famous Legras Verrier catalog raisonné. In very beautiful condition for its great age, with colors vivid and warm. Note only a few small signs of wear quite common due to the passage of time, perfectly consistent with its age (vase over 115 years old!) which in no way detracts from the charm of this magnificent signed Legras collectible vase that will surely beautify your interior and elicit the admiration of your guests! Magnificent piece from the Art Nouveau period, at once decorative, poetic, and transportive: a small dream of the Orient, captured in glass under the last glimmers of a setting sun. Nice trace of the pontil on the blowpipe cut with tongs under the base, a sign of an old high-quality artisanal know-how.
