LEDESMA, CLARA (1924-1999) "Surreale Komposition mit Schmetterling

Öl auf Platte. Unten rechts signiert und datiert: Clara Ledesma 1983. 148 x 125 cm. Rahmen, HxB: 170/141 cm. | Clara Ledesma (1924-1999) “Surreal Composition with Butterfly and Figures” 1983 Oil on board. Signed and dated lower right: Clara Ledesma 1983. 148 x 125 cm. Framed, h x w: 170 x 141 cm. The present large-scale late work by the Dominican avant-garde artist Clara Ledesma, created in 1983, is a masterful testament to her distinctive “Magical Realism,” in which Afro-Caribbean mythology, European Surrealism, and profound feminine introspection merge in a compelling way. Set against an atmospheric background shimmering in nuanced shades of green and turquoise, a stylized, luminous red female figure dominates the center of the composition. Her profile is defined by the artist’s characteristic almond-shaped, contemplative eyes. Behind her appears a double-faced, mask-like being rendered in cool blue and violet tones — a recurring motif in Ledesma’s oeuvre that reflects themes of duality, the subconscious, and spiritual alter egos.
