LARGE LATE ROMAN OPENWORK GOLD RING

Ca. AD 400. A substantial gold ring with a broad openwork hoop composed of slender gold bands converging towards the back. The shoulders are decorated with symmetrical scrollwork extending towards a large circular bezel. The openwork face is embellished with a central rosette of applied wire scrolls and granules, surrounded by concentric borders of granulation.
