L. A. G. Bosc - Histoire naturelle des coquilles...

Fascinating five-volume set illustrated with 43 engraved plates enhanced with watercolors and a depilating table of this study devoted to shells and the mollusks that produce them, combining the description of the shapes and characters of the shells with observations of the animals that inhabit them, their habits, their living environments and the various uses that humans can draw from these natural productions - The edition is part of the tradition of descriptive natural history that seeks to classify species from their visible characteristics while giving increasing importance to the study of the living animal, for the shell is not merely an isolated object but a structure produced and inhabited by an organism whose behavior, diet, reproduction and environment help to better understand the diversity of species - Bosc thus examines the great variety of shells, paying attention to their general shape, size, color, thickness, surface, openings, spirals, ribs, folds and the other characteristics that allow them to be distinguished and to be brought closer to one another - L. A. G. Bosc - Natural History of Shells, the Habits of the Animals that inhabit them, and Their Uses - 1824 - Volume I, II, III, IV and V - Verdière - 1501 Pages.
