Kerry Hallam (English, b. 1937), Sailing Yacht at Sea

Acrylic on canvas, signed at lower left, framed. Stretcher size 36 x 48 in. Frame dimensions 36 1/4 x 48 1/4 in. Kerry Hallam is a maritime painter born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. He attended Chesterfield College of Art before earning a scholarship to the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, where he studied under British artists including Leslie Cole, Patrick Heron, and Hans Tisdale. Hallam later completed his military service with the Gurkha Brigade in Hong Kong and Malaya. In 1973, he relocated to the United States, settling in New England and establishing a studio in Boston before opening a studio and gallery on Nantucket Island in 1981. Hallam is best known for his vibrant, windswept seascapes and sun-filled views of coastal towns, drawing particular inspiration from St. Tropez and the French Riviera. Harbors, sailboats, Mediterranean villages, cafés, gardens, and figures at leisure recur throughout his work, reflecting the artist's extensive travels and fascination with life along the coast. Hallam has exhibited internationally in cities including Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, and San Francisco, and his work is held in public and private collections worldwide.
