Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking among the top ten under-30 sculptors worldwide according to Artprice in that same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its volume FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly greeted Karl for his impressive two-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais. Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later took an interest in tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro, remaining passionate about collage. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, which led to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at Isy Brachot Gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with an exhibition that united paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin. Karl particularly likes showing his works during international exhibitions. In 2011 he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art gallery at Art Monaco with his Cryptogram One. The following year he presented his One Dollar works on the theme "In God We Trust" at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo show at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his work before the international press. In 2010 he was chosen to represent Deauville at the world championship Horsemania in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012 he donated Cryptogram One Bronze to Deauville, a symbolic peace and love sculpture placed at the city’s entrance. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he produced a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011 signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey. The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptural works "One Dollar," which ranked him among Artprice’s top ten under-30 sculptors globally. In 2017 he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Inspired by "Cryptogramme One," he created a mirror-finish aluminum cast trophy bearing messages such as "Hope," "7e Art" and "Deauville" on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy, inspired by Deauville’s emblematic symbol: the barrier designs that separate the deck chairs on the Planches. In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a Jesus statue surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled during Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017 he created the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as "Hope" and "7e Art" on the trophies. 2026: - Finalization of the One Dollar Green Bronze 8 meters, 7 tons.
