I have the pleasure of presenting to you a watch that has represented an icon of the 1950s, an engineering innovation for its era. The Juvenia Ephemeris, but the absolute rarity is finding a Bumper watch with complications; all the Bumpers available on the web are simple watches, without complications, just as all 1950s full calendar watches are hand-wound. I hope I have managed to convey the EXCEPTIONAL nature of this automatic, highly complex marvel from 1950. A true Revolutionary Watch for its time, a technological leap forward. Triple Calendar with Moon Phases with Automatic Movement. The automatic movement in a wristwatch was patented by John Harwood, with Fortis presenting it in Basel in 1926. Subsequently, work continued on introducing complications, and this masterpiece, which at the time carried prohibitive prices, became one of Juvenia’s “pieces” that made it famous. Juvenia Manufacture, a commercially produced high-quality movement (note the bridges and wheels), and extremely precise, an exclusive watch with a prohibitive price even in its day. This is truly a model of rare beauty, an incredible balance in aesthetics: among the four symmetrical bezel regulators on both sides, the slightly domed crystal, the carefully enamel dial, and the lugs that fill the empty spaces—these features all give the watch an magnificent appearance; after all, it is the details that make the difference. Juvenia also mounted externally produced calibers, such as Venus, or it modified them independently using as a base calibers from high watchmaking (for example Valjoux 72). In the 1940s Juvenia created a watch that marked the first great turning point for the Maison in terms of innovation and design—the “Arithmo,” a watch capable of performing extremely difficult mathematical calculations by rotating a system of calibrated discs for this jewel. With the Ephemeris, it reached the peak of success, which is why I describe it as a museum piece and an icon. In Italy, several forums of the top experts and technicians in the field mention it for its very high precision and absolute elegance, uttering only words of unanimous admiration. The four regulation pushers symmetrically placed on the two sides of the watch, on the right and left, and the enamel dial, the extremely high-quality steel forming the case, all make it a jewel, and believe me, in person it immediately conveys its value and weight upon first sight. Approximately 33 mm, crown excluded, as was the typical gentleman’s size of the early ’50s, but worn it feels much larger. For medium/small-medium wrists. Maximum elegance and refinement. Furthermore, the condition makes it an object of extraordinary exclusivity, turning it into a piece for a high-end collection. It runs very well; consider that I picked it up only, and it started running for at least 20 minutes without stopping, resting on the table. I have not tested it over the long term, but I believe it has excellent stability; still, for safety I would recommend a lubrication and a cleaning. Regarding the aesthetic condition, you can see with your own eyes: only one scratch on the left side of the crystal (which I noticed some time after purchase) and perhaps, to be meticulous, a little patina on the metal wheels for adjusting the bezels and some very slight marks on the case back, but again, you can see the close-up photos taken specifically to show you. Otherwise, it is perfect. Crocodile strap. Completely in high-quality stainless steel.
