Johannes Bouman (French/Dutch, 1601-1658) Still life study of fruit in a Kraak bowl, on a ledge, circa 1640, oil on oak panel, 39cm x 60cm Provenance: From a Dorset Manor House Note: Jean-Jacques Bauman was born in Strasbourg and adopted the Dutch form of his name when he relocated to Amsterdam in or before 1622. He drew inspiration from German still life painters like Georg Flegel, as well as from Dutch and Flemish artists like Ambrosius Bosschaert. Bouman specialised in food still lifes and included luxury items from the Far East like the present kraak bowl. Gorringe's are grateful to Dr Fred G.
