Joe Sleep Horse

Halifax, Nova Scotia. C. 1975. Two monumental black horse heads flank Sleep’s familiar heart and star motifs, while a gathering of smaller horses fills the lower register within a cheerful border of repeating yellow flowers. The bold symmetry, flattened forms, and exuberant combination of animals, flowers, and symbols are immediately recognizable elements of Sleep’s highly personal visual language. Signed, "Joseph Sleep", lower centre.
