Joe Norris Autumn Coastal Scene

Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia. C. 1978. Painted as Norris was beginning to refine his distinctive style, this early coastal scene retains unusually crisp detail, particularly in the dock at left and the small figure in a yellow coat, while barely discernible gulls dot the sandy shoreline below. A faint band of pink along the distant horizon anticipates the luminous pink skies that would become an increasingly recognizable feature of Norris’s later landscapes. Signed, "Joe. Norris", lower left.
