Jean-Pierre Collin (1935-2025) - La Station de Métro

Beautiful large oil on cardboard by the artist Jean-Pierre Collin (1935-2025) Title: “On the Metro Platform” Artist: Jean-Pierre Collin (1935-2025) Technique: oil on cardboard paper Signature: signed at the bottom left and dated 1989 Format: 50 x 65 cm Condition: good condition, some light creases and yellowish stains. Jean-Pierre Collin (1935-2025) is a French painter of the 20th century who is part of the bohemian history of Place du Tertre in Montmartre. Although his work remained less well-known than that of the great masters of the early century, he fully aligns with the tradition of street and salon artists of Montmartre in the 1960s and 1970s. Unlike the painters of Place du Tertre who confined themselves to purely touristic and figurative reproductions of the Sacré-Cœur, Jean-Pierre Collin distinguished himself with a style influenced by mid-century modernism and gentle cubism. His works (often done in gouache, pastel, or oil) transform urban landscapes and seascapes into a sequence of linear cadences and clean geometric shapes. His representations of sailing ships or city silhouettes play greatly on verticality. Although he long sold his works directly to passersby and art lovers on the Parisian hill, his paintings today attract the attention of collectors passionate about design and graphic art of the 1970s.
