Based in Paris, he quickly integrated into the bohemian life of the Montparnasse district during the 1920s. There he mingled with the era's major artistic figures and formed a deep friendship with the poet Max Jacob. Alongside his paintings, he actively collaborated with renowned Parisian magazines, notably Le Crapouillot. Recognized by his peers, his artistic talent was officially rewarded with the prestigious Blumenthal Prize in 1934. Afflicted by severe poliomyelitis at the age of 28, he was excluded from any armed military service. He was nevertheless sent to London in the autumn of 1939 as a press correspondent for French newspapers. On 18 June 1940, he witnessed live at Broadcasting House the proclamation of General de Gaulle's historic call. He then became one of the flagship presenters of Free France on the BBC for the program “Les Français parlent aux Français.” After the Liberation, he continued his pictorial and literary work in Paris, where he died in March 1961.
