Jardinière - Art Nouveau with rosette band and teardrop motifs on claw feet

Jardinière - Art Nouveau with rosette band and drop motifs on claw feet, patinated • early 20th century - Brass Large Art Nouveau jardinière made of brass, on three claw feet, with a band of rosettes and drop motifs in relief. The rosettes are surrounded by leaves, the lines are hand-finished. The dark patina lies over gold-toned surfaces and gives the piece depth. As a cachepot on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or floor, it immediately draws the eye. For this object a Buy Now price has also been set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting. Description: A round pot with a bulging body and a rolled rim. Around the upper edge runs a wide band with rosettes, each enclosed by a wreath of leaves. Below, on the body, hang drop-shaped motifs with scroll lines and knoppe. The relief is pressed and finished with fine lines. Three cast claw feet on shield-shaped plates carry the body. The base is flat and lime-gray. The weight of 835 grams corresponds to thin sheet metal. About the maker: Pressed brass jardinières in Art Nouveau emerged around 1900 from English and French workshops; in the Midlands, for example Beldray in Wolverhampton and J. Sankey and Sons in Bilston made similar planters. Roses and drops evoke the Glasgow Rose by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret MacDonald. This piece bears no mark and belongs to that genre. In interior design: Suitable for Art Nouveau, country, and Eclectic interiors, as a cachepot on the floor or on a table. The patina gains warmth from daylight and candlelight. Condition: Good, characterful with well-worn signs. The piece has been outdoors and shows no cleaning: the patina is dull in some places and shiny in others. The lower body shows drip marks and stains, the reliefs show greenish tints, the metal has fine scratches. Bottom rim: a small crease. No restorations observed. At a glance: Material: brass, relief-pressed, with cast feet Dimensions and weight: height 21 cm x diameter 23 cm, 835 grams Brand: no factory mark, signature or label found Dating: early 20th century Origin: from a private collection Provenance and sources: No maker claimed: the piece is unsigned. Style and period arise from the language of form of rose and drop, comparable to Mackintosh's 'Rose and Teardrop' (myddoa.com). They also follow from pressed brass jardinières of English and French manufacture from the early twentieth century. Shipping: Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for fragile objects a double box. Always insured shipping with Track and Trace. See feedback from previous buyers.
