Jan Schoonhoven (1914-1994) - Handsignierter Siebdruck –...

This screenprint from 1987 is a rare and characteristic example of the graphic oeuvre of the Dutch ZERO artist Jan Schoonhoven. The work is signed in pencil at the bottom right and dated, and numbered in pencil at the bottom left. The composition consists of a dense network of finely drawn black lines, distributed across the entire image area in a subtle, rhythmic pattern. From the reduction to line, structure and repetition emerges an extraordinary spatial effect. This calm, almost meditative visual language is typical of Schoonhoven's consistent engagement with order, rhythm, repetition and monochrome form, and makes his work a significant contribution to European minimal and conceptual art. Published by Bébert, Rotterdam, 1987. Literature: C. Rigo, B. Meijer, ‘Jan Schoonhoven. edities - the editions’, Schiedam 2018, The screenprint is presented in an original Perspex showcase. This offers not only optimal visibility but also a high level of protection. The showcase can be hung or placed. Dimensions of the showcase: approx. 51 x 33.5 cm Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) is one of the most important Dutch artists of the 20th century and a key figure of the international ZERO movement. He gained worldwide recognition for his strictly geometric reliefs and graphic works, in which light, structure and repetition play central roles. Despite his international success, Schoonhoven worked as a civil servant in Delft until his retirement and created his art mainly in the evenings. His works are characterized by formal clarity and timeless aesthetics. Works by Jan Schoonhoven are among others in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Kunstmuseum Den Haag), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, as well as the Centre Pompidou, Paris. His works enjoy worldwide high esteem among collectors of ZERO art, of minimalism and of postwar avant-garde. CONDITION The work is in good condition.
