Jalisco Greenstone Three Quarter Grooved Axe Head

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A finely polished greenstone axe head of elongated form, carved with a distinctive three-quarter groove near the butt for hafting. The stone exhibits a deep olive-green tone with natural mineral inclusions and weathered earthen deposits that accentuate its ancient surface.
