The poem successively embraces the three kingdoms of nature: mineral, vegetable and animal. The text incorporates the scientific discoveries and knowledge of its time, notably those of Buffon, Linnaeus, Réaumur and Newton. The particular interest of this edition lies in the scientific notes by Cuvier and other savants, which accompany the poem and provide explanations relating to natural history.
