J. L. Bonnet – Large Portrait of a Lady – Oil on Canvas – 19th Century – 130 × 104 cm An imposing oil on canvas signed J. L. Bonnet in the lower left, depicting the portrait of an elegant seated lady. The subject is shown in a richly worked black dress, adorned with white lace. The treatment of the face, the fabrics, the lace, and the jewelry is characteristic of bourgeois and academic portraiture of the second half of the 19th century. The canvas is presented in an imposing old gilded frame, richly molded and ornamented, which gives a remarkable presence to the whole. Artist: J. L.
