Second part of the famous historical paraphrase of the New Testament composed by the Jesuit Isaac-Joseph Berruyer (1681-1758). First published in 1753, this second part provoked lively controversy: condemned by several bishops and by the Holy See, it was disavowed by the author’s superiors, which explains the multiplication of editions under foreign imprint, including this “more exact edition” from Antwerp. The last volume contains Latin dissertations. Titles printed in red and black. Contemporary binding in full mottled calf, spine with raised bands, with labels for the title and the volume number. Condition: headcaps and corners rubbed, some epidermal wear; foxing scattered and small marginal stains.
