Ca. AD 18001900 An Indian steel tabar battle axe featuring a broad, crescent-shaped blade with sharply pointed extremities and an elaborately engraved central section. The axe head is fitted with a substantial rectangular hammer poll, similarly embellished with engraved decorative motifs, and surmounted by a prominent spherical finial. The cylindrical steel haft displays pronounced spiral fluting, creating a distinctive twisted appearance. The metal surfaces retain a dark brown patina with areas of oxidation, wear and discolouration. Size: 81.3mm Provenance: Private London collection; US art market, before 2000.
