Icon - Mother of God of Kazan - .800 silver - Panagia/Enkolpion

Rare item, originally part of an important ecclesiastical pectoral, also known as Panaghia/Enkolpion. Original object from Russia, with a refined scrolled silver frame (no hallmarks, subjected to acid test). In the center, hand-painted miniature of the Madonna of Kazan, signed at the bottom G. Rubliov. On the back painted the Orthodox cross. All Orthodox bishops are obliged to wear this medallion on the chest. The patriarchs or metropolitans (prelates of higher rank) wear a second Enkolpion depicting Jesus Christ or the Holy Trinity, but the Panaghia remains the base and indispensable symbol of episcopal dignity. In excellent overall condition. Overall measurements 7x5 cm. Total weight 13/14 g. *The last image shows the item worn for demonstration purposes. The purchase includes exclusively the piece depicted in the other photos.* Auction without reserve! Proper packaging and fast shipping.
