Author of the famous Chagrin des Belges, he participated in the collective creations of the Cobra group painters. Alongside Guillaume Corneille, Henny Riemens (1928-1992), the painter’s first wife, followed the Cobra group at every moment and provided essential testimony about the group as a photographer. Most books on the Cobra movement also reproduce images by Henny Riemens, widely circulated in the following decades. Passionate about Lévi-Strauss’s writings and early documentary reports on Africa, the couple embarked in 1956 on the audacious project of crossing Africa by jeep to be in total immersion.
