Set of 2 Holmegaard ‘Granny’ lamps – Michael Bang – green opaline glass – Denmark, 1970s A beautiful and particularly decorative set of two original Danish Holmegaard ‘Granny’ glass lampshades, designed by Michael Bang for Holmegaard in 1975. The two identical pieces are finished in stunning deep dark-green opaline glass and form a characteristic example of the progressive Danish glass design of the 1970s. The hand-blown glass shades have the distinctive low, bulbous shape of the Granny series, combined with a beautifully sculpturally constructed neck with multiple glass rings. The deep emerald- to bottle-green glass takes on different nuances depending on the light and provides a particularly atmospheric appearance. The glass shades originate from the Holmegaard Granny series and were later converted for use as pendant lamps. For this, they are equipped with long brass-colored rods and suspension structures. The modification does not detract from the original Holmegaard glass and makes the lamps immediately usable as pendant lamps. Especially as an identical pair they come into their own above a dining table, kitchen island, or long sideboard. The combination of the dark green hand-blown glass and brass gives the set a pronounced luxury Scandinavian mid-century look.
