Hap Hopper: John Edmond Sparling got his artistic education at the Arts and Crafts Club in New Orleans, and the Corcoran School of Art. After doing gag cartoons for the editorial page of the New Orleans Item-Tribune, he created the comic strip about the reporter 'Hap Hopper, Washington Correspondent' with writers Drew Pearson and Robert S. Allen in 1939. He drew the strip until 1943, when he was succeeded by Al Plastino. Sparling has several credits with the Parents' Magazine Press, including 'Real Heroes', 'Judy Wing', 'Betty Fairfield', 'Jack Armstrong' and 'Pug and Curly'. In the 1940s, he worked on comic books by Lev Gleason (romance) and Fawcett ('Nyoka'), and did various promotional comics, among others for the American Gas Association and the steel industry. He also did a new syndicated comic, called 'Claire Voyant' (1943-48). In the 1950s, Sparling worked for companies like Harvey, Toby Press, Charlton and Ziff Davis, doing western, horror and romance titles. He also did syndicated strips like 'Mister Rubbles' and 'Sam Hill'. For Gilberton's Classics Illustrated, Sparling drew 'Robin Hood' and Mark Twain's 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court'. Henry: Henry is a comic strip created in 1932 by Carl Thomas Anderson. The title character is a young bald boy who is mostly mute in the comics (and sometimes drawn minus a mouth). Except in a few early episodes, when the comic strip character communicates, he does so largely but not entirely through pantomime. He also spoke in a comic book series of 1946–1961 and in at least one Betty Boop cartoon from 1935 in which Betty Boop has a pet shop and Henry speaks to a dog in the window. The Saturday Evening Post was the first publication to feature Henry, a series which began when Anderson was 67 years old. The series of cartoons continued in that magazine for two years in various formats of one, two, or multiple panels. It then moved to newspaper syndication on December 17, 1934. Anderson stopped drawing due to arthritis in 1942, and the strip continued with other artists. The daily strip went into reruns in 1995, and the Sunday strip in 2005.[1] After 84 years of syndication, Henry was discontinued on October 28, 2018. Will be shipped with track&trace. The lots in this auction can be shipped combined. This is taken into account up to a weight of 5 kg. If packages need to be split due to weight, an additional charge will apply. In this case, we will contact you. #specialcollectionservice
